SLJ: Blackout Poem

For this task I had to find a magazine or newspaper then try to highlight most of the article in black and leave only the words I’ll be using in the poem.

  1. Kia ora Helena,
It’s Mrs Clifford from the Summer Learning Journey Commenting Team.

Your blackout poem is fantastic! It made me laugh – which I am thinking may have been your purpose! What gave you the idea and where did you find the original text – is the text about teeth brushing?

I imagine lots of parents will be hoping their children are brushing their teeth after all of their holiday treats! What is your favourite holiday treat? My mum makes these amazing apricot bliss balls and she only makes them at Christmas. They are by far the best treat in our house.

Love your blogging! Keep up the great work.

    1. Hi Mrs Clifford, thank you for taking the time to check my post, the original article was about protecting kids from the Halloween ache. My favorite treat is a puff pastry Christmas tree filled with Nutella.

      1. Kia ora Helena,

Oh interesting! Did you participate in Halloween? Do you think that this would be something kiwi parents should be concerned about?

YUM!!! That makes my mouth water. Do you have those at any other time of the year or are they just a Christmas treat? We normally have puff pastry filled with cream so it would be interesting to try it with Nutella too. Have you filled them with anything else?

        1. Hi Mrs Clifford Thank you for commenting on my blog and to answer your questions yes I did participate in Halloween and I am not sure if Kiwi parents should be concerned. I usually have my treat on Christmas and I have tried it with custard and I love it.

          1. Oh awesome! What did you dress up as? When I went out for Halloween I dressed as Where’s Wally – do you know that character?

Oh yum! Custard also sounds delicious.

          1. Kia ora Helena,

Oh cool! Did you take inspiration from any famous Pirates? Or did you create your own character?

That’s awesome to hear. Where’s Wally is such a great book to read when you have some time – I used to read it in the car when we went on road trips. Where is your favourite place to read?

        2. Hi Mrs Clifford,

I decided to dress up in a pirate costume that I made up with the things I have at home.and I don’t really have a favourite spot to read because I like reading no matter where I am.

          1. Kia ora Helena,

Oh that sounds very resourceful! Good on you.

Reading is such an awesome thing to love to do. I really like reading fiction books that take me to another time and place. Do you have a favourite type of book to read?
